Grumbly Cat
by Anon

I have a Grumbly Cat in mind, her name is Jennyanydots;
Her claws are of the scratchy kind; she's nearly always hot and cross.
All day she groans about the stair, about the steps or that old mat:
She groans and moans and groans and sits - and that's what makes a Grumbly Cat!

But when the day's hustle and bustle is done,
Then us poor little mice aren't allowed any fun.
And when all the family's in bed and asleep
She slips down the stairs to the basement to creep.
We're not permitted to race up and down
For the Grumbly cats here with her Grumbly frown.
nd when she has got us lined up on the matting
She teaches us music; crocheting and tatting.
